What Lies Ahead?

Mr. Björnsson mentions that a long-
term development plan for the
manufacturing industry in Iceland
has been under preparation for 18
months by foreign and Icelandic
experts, and that it was presented to
the Icelandic Government last Feb-
ruary. The United Nationes Indus-
trial Development Organization has
made the above project possible.
The recommendations in this develop-
ment plan are now under considera-
tion in the Ministry of Industry, and
to some extent the 1974 State Budget
will reveal how the Government will
be assisting the manufacturing indus-
■try in the near future.

on April 29th, 1973. Mr. Björnsson
gives a general description of the
instruction program for industrial en-
gineers at an American Institute of
Technology and a Danish Technical
University. Next he discusses the
fields of activity for industrial en-
gineers in general and whether an
industrial Engineering Curriculum
should be established by the Univer-
sity of Iceland. Future needs for
industrial engineers in Iceland is also
discussed.
Supervisory Training Courses

Annual report. The main subjects
were as usual supervision, work
study and various technical and
managerial aspects of industry. Since
1962 there have been held 41 courses
with a total of 625 participants.
Government Cement Works

This is a report on the operations of
the Government Cement Works for
the years 1968—'72. The Government
Cement Works went into operation
in 1959 and its annual reports were
published in IÐNAÐARMÁL yearly
until 1967. Now this will be resumed.
The report contains comparative
statistics on the production of Port-
land Cement and special products for
the years 1968—1972, the average
yearly production being well over
100.000 metric tons. Last year gave
the highest production of some
130.000 metric tons in the 13 years
history of the Cement Works.
