Onsen (Japanese for “hot spring”) is the experimental electronic
side project of the EDM artist better known as Trevor Welch. EDM
is something Americans listen to, and it sounds like someone left
their car indicators on next to a megaphone. Now, cars don’t work
very well in hot springs, but if they did, and you parked inside one
with your indicators on, it might sound like ‘Kanaya Base’. Or not.
The album, much like some of the older patrons of Sundhöllin,
reflects on loneliness, xenophobia and distance. The album
release show promises to be an audio-visual feast, “as ignorable
as it is interesting.” With 50 limited-edition cassettes up for grabs,
you'd better hurry or you’ll lose bragging rights for life. CMD

Four years ago, singer Amy Winehouse tragically died at only
27 years old. Having just won five Grammy awards for her second
album, the beehived starlet was at the height of a promising and
prolific career. In honour of Winehouse’s contributions to not only
pop, but soul, reggae, jazz, and hip-hop, singer Anna Sóley and
others will get ‘Back to Black’ at Gaukurinn. Performing classics
like “Rehab”, “You Know I’m No Good”, and “Tears Dry On Their
Own”, the band includes not only guitars but also trumpets and
saxophones. Turn off Spotify and head over to Gaukurinn to hear
your favourites live. HJC
