Sex mismunandi myndanir gosbergs koma lyrir í
jarðlagastafla, sem leiðangur frá Sheflield-háskóla
kortlagði í nágrenni Sólheimajökuls sumarið 1973.
Myndanirnar hafa að mestu orðið til við gos undir
jökli; þær eru aðskildar af roíflötum og jökulbergs-
lögum, sem rekja má nokkum veg. Efnagreiningar
voru gerðar á nokkrum bergsýnum úr þessum
stafla, og virðist alkali-innihald bergsins hafa farið
hækkandi með tímanum í þeim gosum erþama áttu
sér stað.
