March 1989. As oflDecember 1995 the State monopoly on the import and wholesale ofalcohol was abolished and importers, producers and wholesalers holding
a special licence issued by the Ministry ofFinance were permitted to sell alcohol to resellers. Figuresfor 1995 cover the sales ofÁTVR and the sales oflicence
holdersfor December. In the years 1980-1992 wine covers table wine and fortified wine and spirits refers to stronger alcohol. As of1993 alcoholic beverages
with alcohol percentage 22% or less by volume, except beer, are counted as wine and those over22% by volume are counted as spirits.
