largest export product was aluminium and
aluminium products, 233,000 million ISK
(37.6% of total exports of goods), increased
by 3% (6,700 million ISK at current prices).
Next in line to the exports of aluminum
was the export of ferro-silicon, 24,000
million ISK, and medicinal products, 14,300
million ISK. Marine products were 40.6% of
all exports of goods and exported marine
products accounted for 251,600 million
ISK, an increase of 14.1% from 2010 (31,100
million ISK at current prices).
The share of EEA countries 83% in exports
of goods
The EEA was the largest market area for
Icelandic products in 2011. The share of
exports of goods to the EEA was 82.7% in
2011, increased from 78.3% in 2007. The
share of the EEA countries in total imports
of goods was 61.9% in 2011 and 61% in 2010
in comparison to almost 65% in 2007-2009.
Exports of goods to EU countries was 78.3%
of total exports of goods and 46% of total
imports came from EU countries.
Surplus in services trade
In 2011, export of services was 344,269
million ISK and the import of services
302,670 million ISK. Therefore, the services
trade surplus for the year 2011 was 41,598
million ISK. The services trade surplus
was 34,783 million ISK in 2010 at current
exchange rates.
Transportation was the largest category of
exports as the year before, accounting for
158,407 million ISK or 46% of total exports
of services. The largest category within
transportation was air transport, 41.1% of
total exports of services. Travel were the
second largest category of exports, 25.2%,
of total exports of services in 2011.
In 2011, the largest category of imports
was transportation, 91,033 million ISK or
30.1% of total imports of services. Thereof
the largest category was air transport,
18.4% of total. Next in line with trans-
portation came travel, 28.4%, and other
business services (the largest category
operational leasing services), 28.1% of total
imports of services in 2011.
There was a surplus of 67,374 million ISK of
transportation and 14,019 million ISK of
royalties and license fees, but there was a
33,806 million ISK deficit of other business
services.
EU was the largest trading partner in 2011,
both with regards to exports and imports
of services. 59% of total exports of services
were sold to EU and 65.3% of total imports
of services were bought from EU. There was
a trade surplus with EU, 5,351 million ISK.
