Who knows how to navigate a
city better than the locals? No-
body, that’s who. With that in
mind, we asked some faces of
the local scene—a dancer, an
artist and a drag queen—to
tell us about how they’d spend
their perfect day in Reykjavík.
Imagine that! No work (unless
they’re weird and want to), no
fitness guilt (although some
people apparently enjoy work-
ing out, wtf), and no budget
considerations (yay!). What a
day. Here are some highlights
from their dream itineraries.

I have the best roomie in the his-
tory of roomies (the award-win-
ning Kristlín Dís Ólafsdóttir).
So the first thing is to sneakily
wake her up by vacuuming or
“accidentally” dropping a heavy
thing on the kitchen floor. Af-
ter my success, she will wake
up, and we plan what to have
for brunch—pancakes with av-
ocados, Greek yoghurt, banan-
as and syrup. While walking to
Melabúðin to buy the food, we’ll
discuss our latest discoveries in
life, or enjoy the walk in silence.

If I’m not working in my studio
or at Kling & Bang, a perfect day
for me is to go out on my mo-
torcycle. There are many great
options for a day trip close to
Reykjavík—one route I love to
drive is to Krýsuvík, and have a
relaxing time by Lake Kleifar-
vatn, then Grindavík for a coffee
at the Bryggjan Café, and on to
Reykjanesviti, and Keflavík. If
I’m working in Reykjavík, I like
to go for a lunch at Veislusetrið
in the basement of Rúgbrauðs-
gerðin. You can have a lunch
there with the “working class
heroes” of Iceland, with fair
prices and food like your mom
would make for you.

If I'm performing, I'll probably
have started getting into drag. A
good three hours is perfect—I’ll
whack on some pussy popping
vogue mixes while I beat my face
for the gods. If I’m not perform-
ing, I might join my good Judies
(best friends) in Bravó to spill
the T (i.e. talk shit) over a nice
glass of red—the atmosphere
there is super cosy—or head to
Gaukurinn and Kíkí where we
perform and support my fellow
artists. If I'm feeling peckish on
the way home, I might grab a
falafel from everyone's favourite
after-hours place, Mandi.
