Music 31The Reykjavík GrapevineIssue 13— 2019 “You have no option but to shake your money maker when this track starts.” DJ Check the Grapevine’s iPhone and Android app ‘Appening Today’ for Yamaho’s latest DJ dates Natalie G. Gunnarsdóttir is better known as Yamaho, a respected veteran DJ on the Reykjavík scene. Known for propulsive sets that set the dancefloor alight, she’s been a staple DJ at many of the city’s best spots since starting out at legendary par- ty bar Sirkus. She won a DJ contest at Pacha in Ibiza in 2013, and, more re- cently, has played everywhere from Sónar Reykjavík to Berghain in Ber- lin. We asked Natalie to line up a playlist for us of some of the all- time favourite Icelandic tracks that have stayed in her record bag right into the present day. Ellý - Sveitin Milli Sanda This song is one of my all time fa- vourites. When I first heard it, it was like a religious experience for me. Ellý is one of Iceland’s greats. She portrays her vocal skills in such a beautiful way. Lúdó Sextett og Stefán - Olsen Olsen When I play this song it puts an in- stant smile on my face and I can’t stop moving. The song and lyrics are top notch. It’s such a joy at all times. GusGus - David T h is song is s uch a meg- ahit, and an- other one of m y a l l - t i m e favourites. You have no option but to sha ke your money maker when this track starts. It’s a wild-thing-mega-me- ga. Ragnhildur Gísladóttir - Draumaprinsinn This one is an ‘80s power ballad that ticks in all my boxes. I love her voice, and it’s just an emo- tional journey. You can’t hold yourself back from partaking in the song. Páll Óskar - Horfðu á mig Taken from the album "Seif," this is one of the best dance/house songs produced in Iceland. It’s been one of my favourites since I heard it for the first time, and it is still rele- vant on the dance floors today. This one is always on my playlist, wher- ever I go. ILO - Take you to love ILO songs take you on a journey, and this song is no exception. With firm guidance, you tread through the soundscape with the luscious soulful vocals. Pure bliss. Móri - Atvinnukrimmi ‘90’s hip hop par excellence. The Icelandic language can he hard to flow in hip-hop, but Móri makes it sound easy. I fell in love with the lyrics and the beats when I first heard it. One of the best hip hop songs and albums produced in Ice- land.
