CROSSWORD ANSWERS Icelandic for beginners Íslenska fyrir byrjendur by Helga Hilmisdóttir Department of Icelandic, University of Manitoba http://www.umanitoba.ca/faculties/arts/icelandic No. 38 Áramót – New Year’s Eve Hildur: Maggi, hvað ætlar þú að gera um áramótin? Hildur: Maggi, what are you going to do on New Year’s Eve? Maggi: Just the same as usual. Hildur: And what is that? Maggi: I’m going to eat with Mom and Dad. They usually have duck as a main course. It is always awfully good. Hildur: And what do you do after that? Maggi: When we have finished eating we go to a bonfire. There is always a big bonfire on New Year’s Eve down by the harbour. It is so much fun to go there and watch the people. Every- body is in such a good mood. Hildur: And what do you do when the bonfire is over? Maggi: Then we watch the New Year’s Eve sketches on television. Hildur: And what then? Maggi: When the sketches are over we go out in the garden and launch some fireworks. That’s the highlight of the evening. I think it is so much fun to watch the fireworks. How about you? What are you going to do? Hildur: Well, actually just the same. I’m going to eat nice food, go to a bonfire, watch the New Year’s sketches and launch some fireworks. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
