Our dear mother, mother-in-law
and grandmother, Margrét Björgvin-
sdóttir, passed away in Reykjavík on
October 7.
She is survived by her three chil-
dren, Björgvin Richard Andersen, Karl
Andersen, Fríða Bonnie Andersen and
her four grandchildren, Thelma Mar-
grét, Daði Örn, Viktor Orri and Kristófer
Atli Andersen.
Margrét was the daughter of
Hólmfríður Guðmundsson and Björgvin
Guðmundsson, who was a well-known
composer of music in Iceland.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mar-
grét had plenty of friends and relatives
in Canada.
In 1931 the family moved to
Akureyri, Iceland where Margrét’s fa-
ther went to work as a music teacher
and choir conductor, and it was there
that she grew up.
Later she went to Winnipeg to study
at the School of Laboratory Technology.
She worked in that profession for a few
years in Canada and the US and later
in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she spent
the last 40 years of her life. In Seattle,
where she spent some time working
in 1957, she met Richard C. Andersen,
who was to be her husband for 11 years
and the father of her children.
Margrét was a kind-hearted and
gentle person, much loved by all who
knew her.
Her chief aim in life was to sup-
port her children and send them
through college.
She had a wide range of inter-
ests, enjoyed reading and listening to
music and had a sizeable collection of
books and CDs.
Burial will be at the cemetery of
Akureyrarkirkja in Akureyri, Iceland.
