Feb. 7 is the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, the grand old man of English literature! We’re celebrating in February with a wonderful new adaptation of Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, adapted by Londoner Marion Johnson and directed by leading London director Don Fleckser – with a cast and crew drawn from London’s finest. The exhibition brings together 48 works by Nordic artists who embraced, and pioneered, the transformative aesthetic innovations that swept the European continent during late 19th and early 20th centuries. $5 ($3 for Seniors & Students with a valid ID; Free for ASF Members). Dreamland is a film about a nation standing at cross- roads; a nation with abundance of choices gradually becomes caught up in a plan to turn its wilderness and beautiful nature into a massive system of hydro-electric and geothermal power plants with dams and reservoirs. ICELANDIC CLASSES Saturdays, 4 February – 31 March Toronto, ON: Íslenskukennsla, Icelandic Language Classes for Children and Youth. The ICCT offers weekly language classes held on Saturday afternoons from 1- 3 p.m. for 8 weeks. COST: $65 for ICCT members $75 non-members. Tentative schedule runs Sat. Feb. 4 to Sat. Wednesdays Gimli, MB: Kaffitími (coffee time) in Gimli takes place at 3 p.m. each Wednesday, meeting at Amma’s Tea Room at the Gimli Waterfront Centre. There is no signup and no teacher. Anyone is welcome to drop in; the only fee is the price of your cup of coffee. There is only one rule – you need to talk Icelandic in order to participate in the chat around the table.
