ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The accomplishment of the investigations, the first results of
which are dealt with in the present paper, has been made possible
thanks to the cooperation of many organizations, scientists and
officers.
The Academy of Sciences of USSR organized an expedition to
Iceland and cruises of the research vessels “Academic Kurchatov”
and “Mikhail Lomonosov”. V. V. Belousov, memher-correspondent
of Academy of Sciences has been an initiator, organizer and scien-
tific supervisor of the complex investigations in the Iceland area.
Scientists from Iceland, in particular Dr. G. Pálmason, S. Bjöms-
son, P. Einarsson and A. Jakobsson rendered invaluable help to the
Soviet expedition in the land seismic investigations in Iceland.
We should express our gratitude to Prof. M. H. P. Bott, Dr. J.
Sunderland and Mr. P. Smith, scientists from Durham University
(UK) who were responsible for shot firing, recording, exchange of
the records and discussion of the progress in processing under
NASP.
We thank Dr. F. Klein and Mr. M. Wyss, Lamont-Doherty
Geologic Observatory, USA, for their assistance in the seismic
surveys in Iceland.
Academician A. G. Kolesnikov, Academy of Sciences, Ukraine
Repubhc, USSR assisted in participation of “Mikhail Lomonosov”
in NASP. Captain I. I. Belishev and the crew helped much in
obtaining good-quality seismic records. Prof. G. B. Udintsev and
Dr. V. F. Kanaev exercised the scientific and admistration super-
vision offshore.
Prof. R. Raitt, Scripp’s Oceanographic Institute, USA, being on
board of “Academic Kurchatov” shared in the interpretation of
the NASP records by means of the time-term method.
To all above mentioned organizations and individuals go our
most sincere appreciation and deep gratitude.
