On the western edge of the cleft, at the end of the
glacier-tongue, another cairn was built, which in com-
bination with a row of three large stones on the other
side marks the present position of the ice tongue at the
bottom of the deft.
3. The Sólheimajökull. This ice stream originates in
the snow covered depression that separates the Eyjafjalla-
