when fhe map was made.
As it proved to be attented with great difficulties to get
over the glacier or across the river to the eastern side I only
placed fixing marks on the western side:
A) A large white painted bloch with a little cairn upon it.
Ao A bamboos stick in a cairn.
Distance Aj across Ao (N 30° W) to the ice front 34 m.
A3 A wooden stick in a cairn about 50 m. to W from Ao.
The line of vision A3—A2 cuts the front edge of the glacier at
the spring-head of the river.
