measured. The Stykkishólmur—Ólafsvík profile (60) runs from a shot
point near Stykkishólmur to’wards Ólafsvík, and the Skógaströnd pro-
file (61) runs from a shot point in lake Haukadalsvatn towards Stykk-
ishólmur. The total delay time of the P3-wave is shown separately in
Fig. 13 for each profile on the peninsula, and also for profile 1 on
Skardsströnd. Fig. 14 shows the locations of two cross sections which
have been drawn from the available data (cf. Figs. 17 and 18).
The continuous profile from Kolbeinsstadir to Ólafsvík consists of
two eastward profiles from the shot points at Ólafsvik and Hrauns-
múli, and three westward profiles from the shot points at Kolheins-
stadir, Hofsstadir and Hraunsmúli. It is the only continuous profile
of this kind in Iceland and it allows a more accurate determination
of both depth to layer 3 and its true P-wave velocity than would be
possible on single profiles.
The delay time of the P3-wave was computed by a method de-
scribed earlier (eqn. 4.1.4). Over most of the continuous profile it
was possible to make two or three separate determinations of delay
time from different pairs of reversed single profiles. The results are
