FLIGHTS OF FANCY
Pell og Purpuri put together a collection around which music
was composed and a dance piece choreographed. The whole
show worked to the theme of ‘eruption and the glacier’, begin-
ning with cooler colours, like white, silver and blue, and then
graduating to hotter shades. Working in organza, plastic and
coloured feathers, these haute couture garments are for those
that believe fashion should be a personal adventure. You can

CLOSE KNITS
SM is the work of designer, Sara María Skúladóttir, and these
garments were taken from her recent collection of one-off
pieces, knitted in vibrant colours of Icelandic Lopi wool. This SM
collection brings back styles that died out a couple of decades
ago, including the good old snood and leg warmers. But as far
as Sara María’s concerned, the leg warmers can keep your arms
cosy, the woollen bracelets can adorn your ankles and her
snoods can fit snugly around your shoulders. This spunky

FABRIC SENSE
Textile designer, Brynja Emilsdóttir, has a straightforward
approach to fashion design: “I just want to make clothes for ordi-
nary women who want to be comfortable and look nice,” she
says adding, “but who don’t want to look like everybody else. I
only make one of everything.” That’s probably easier said than
done, but Brynja’s work does have a simplistic beauty. She has
an instinctive way of working with fabric to which she adds
unique touches, like screen printing the relief map of the
Mýrdalsjökull glacier, or embroidering a web of vermicelli
coloured threads. Her clothes are available in Fantasia, in the
Kringlan shopping mall which is open from Mon. - Wed. + Fri. 10
a.m. - 6.30 p.m., Thurs. 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
