The Dish
On July 20, 1969, nearly one bil-
lion viewers around the globe
took “one giant leap for mankind”
with Neil Armstrong's history-
making moonwalk. Few, however,
are aware of the pivotal role that
an enormous, 1,000-tonne satellite
dish – located in a small, rural
Aussie town – played in televising
the historic lunar landing to the
masses. Based on true events, this
flick mixes historical drama with
offbeat humor to be both charm-
ing and comical. It’s also a smart
and witty look at the differing cul-
tural attitudes between Australia
and the US, while revisiting one of
the greatest events in history.
