A T L A N T I C A 9 airmail Icelandic songstress Björk has astounded crit- ics from all over the world with her latest album Vespertine, considered to be her best album yet. For her world tour which began in September, Björk wanted to play in small, personal venues where she could be close to her audience, selecting to perform in churches, opera hous- es and small theatres. Accompanied by Inuit singer Taggaq and a girls’ choir from Greenland, with images of ice and pri- mordial life forms projected above the stage, her concerts are of a haunting beauty. Björk began her world tour in France, in the exquisite Sainte Chapelle, and then headed to the USA and Canada in October. Her November concerts include ones at the Théatre de Champs Élysées in Paris, at the Cologne Opera House in Germany, the Costanzi Opera in Rome and The Opera House in Parma, Italy. December dates include the Kokusai Hall and Orchard Hall in Tokyo and The Royal Opera House in London. At the end of the year, Björk is set to play in her native country, Iceland, with dates yet to be set. According to music web site, NME.com, Björk also plans to play a number of 'secret' 300 capacity shows around the world, without the aid of a microphone, which will be announced on the day of the performance.
