A hand-picked selection of some of the finest quality kitchen utensils and stoves can be
found in Kokka, a small shop in the centre of Reykjavík. This specialist shop’s owners
have combed through Europe’s producers with a fine-toothed comb, looking for well-
designed items that have been made to professional standards.
Cooking enthusiasts will delight in their selection which includes handmade knives from
German company Güde, Peugeot pepper mills (yes, the famous automobile producers
also have a history in pepper mill production) which come with a lifelong guarantee,
ovenproof Pillivugt porcelain from France and a wide selection of utensils from Rösle, a
Bavarian company.
From Italy, Kokka supply stoves by IKVE, which are made to order in a variety of shapes
and sizes, and can be customised to include a selection of features. Most of the shop’s
wooden items are Italian too. Those looking for a gift are sure to find something here to
fit the budget, from the selection of Swedish tableware, aprons and oven mitts for exam-
ple. In fact, despite its size, you’ll find this little shop seems to have pretty much every-
thing that could be called for in a kitchen, and some things that you’ve never even heard

Jingle Mall
Shopping has been taken to a whole new level in Iceland with the opening of the Smáralind shopping centre, in Kópavogur,
near Reykjavík. Home to the nation’s first-ever hypermarket, Smáralind is the largest shopping centre in Iceland, covering
63,000 square metres not inclusive of more than ample parking space. Moreover, the new mall gathers together a variety of
internationally-established quality retailers, including Debenhams, Zara, Top Shop, Benetton and Miss Selfridge – all helping
to keep Iceland in tune with the latest in high-street fashion.
And for its first-ever Christmas, Smáralind will be jingling all the way. Join the crowds buzzing around the all-purpose exhibi-
tion and entertainment centre or grab a bite at any one of the eateries, including Subway, TGI Friday’s and Pizza Hut. When
you’re just about Christmased-out, catch a movie at the five-screen cineplex (there’s ‘Lazy Boy’ chairs in the luxury theatre) or
let yourself be pampered at the hair salon.
And that’s not all. The staff at Debenhams will be doing all they can this year to take the frazzle out of the Christmas season,
offering a great gift selection and even foot massage for those with tired toes. That should leave you in pretty good shape for
