Dear passenger,
As you may have noticed, year after year, more and more people are flying. All over the world, experts in various
fields work hard to develop new and improved ways to serve every traveler. The changes are hard to see; only by
looking into statistics do we realize how much safety has increased, that service is better and prices are lower than
before. The progression is steady and sure.
But sometimes we do witness dramatic change, and you’ll see one at Icelandair soon. In the spring of 2010, the
first two Dreamliners – the revolutionary Boeing 787 aircraft – will be delivered to Icelandair. And two years later we
will add two more, with an option in our current agreement with Boeing to add three more.
The Dreamliner 787 is part of a family of airplanes carrying 200 to 300 passengers on routes up to 8,500 nautical
miles (16,000 kilometers). The Dreamliner will use 20 percent less fuel than today’s airplanes of comparable size and
will provide operators with up to 45 percent more cargo revenue capacity. Passengers will enjoy an innovative new
interior environment with higher humidity, wider seats and aisles and larger windows, greatly improving the overall
flying experience. It has tremendous passenger appeal.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner can fly to Iceland from almost any place in the world – a six-billion-person market-
place. With these additions, Icelandair continues to expand its network offering flights to and from Iceland in conjunc-
tion with its fleet-growth plan. Adding the 787 to our fleet will attract even more tourism to Iceland. By guaranteeing
airplanes of this type we are opening up innumerable options for the Group’s future developments.
The new, high technology Boeing 787 continues to capture the interest of airline customers around the world.
With around 350 orders from airlines, the 787 Dreamliner is the most successful new airplane in Boeing history and
has all the right attributes to serve Icelandair profitably and provide its passengers with a new flying experience.
I hope to see you on board an Icelandair Dreamliner soon!
