56 a t l a n t i c a Flower Power “My pieces were originally inspired by clusters of flowers, but the same time I wanted them to look modern,” says Elva Dögg Árnadóttir about her range of crocheted neck- laces simply entitled Elva. “I have always been drawn to accessories with intricate details, and in 2009 I started making them for myself. At the time I was living in Madrid where I came across an amazing eco-friendly rayon yarn dyed in a wide range of colors.” Every new collection, presented in March each year, has twelve color variants, ensuring that her customers don’t all wear the same thing, she explains. The latest col- lection consists of three main designs inspired by the heart shape. It also includes tasseled ear- rings in two sizes. “I did not expect to be making a living from this now, almost three years later,” confesses Árnadóttir whose previous experience includes a design degree and for years owning a vintage clothing shop on Reykjavík’s main street Laugavegur. “But I still enjoy it immensely and continue to hand-make all the pieces myself. Besides, I’m not sure I would trust anyone else!” Available at Epal, Mýrin, Kraum, Rokk & rósir, Hrím and Rammagerdin. DESIGNa Photo By EgIll IBSEn
