The end of summer typically slows the
tourist season to a trickle but Jónas Emilsson,
who runs Salka with his siblings guðrún
and Börkur, says that the increase in visitors
and the lengthening of the tourist season in
Iceland in recent years has meant that the res-
taurant can now be open longer and through-
out the year. year-round ferry operation from
mainland Europe and more competition on
the car hire market helps, he adds, as does
the return of direct flights from Reykjavík.

“will change everything for us,” Jónas states.
