their thirties, work with local mat-
erials in line with their philosophy
of recycling and sustainability. “Our
core goal is to find use in unused
things, and activate unused oppor-
tunities,” Þórunn explains, adding
that the ultimate goal is to create
jobs in the community.
One of the projects they have been work-
ing on is a makeshift bakery. Each Friday,
they prepare a selection of decadent baked
goods which they sell at the Skaftfell bistro in
the hope of inspiring others to think outside
the box.
“We want to see what can actually
be possible here, to create opportuni-
ties. Could this work, could this be a
job for somebody?” Nyström explains
from their studio in the heart of
town. “We don’t have ambitions to be
bakers,” adds Hanna, who moved to
