22 ICELAND REVIEW
ART
about the artists or their works on those terms. The artists we work
with live all over the world: in China, Denmark, The Netherlands,
Brazil, U.S. and, of course, Berlin. They are all international artists.
“Ragnar Kjartansson, Iceland’s latest big international star, was
born in Iceland and lives here but the world is his stage. At
Moderna Museet in Malmö, Sweden, his work Scandinavian Pain
will be installed in a newly-built barn alongside works by Edvard
Munch through the summer of 2013. He will also participate in
Massimiliano gioni’s Venice Biennale exhibition and recently had a
duration performance, A Lot of Sorrow, in New York with U.S. rock
band The National performing their song, ‘Sorrow’ repeatedly in a
six-hour live loop. Still, Ólafur Elíasson is by miles the biggest artist
from Iceland.”
As we stand up and move on so I can take his portrait, I ask
Börkur, “You were a very promising photographer, do you still take
pictures?” “No,” he says, “The only pictures I take these days are
with my mobile.”
