river, and the other is to take the gravel
track to the two mountain huts near
the top. The shortest, but most interest-
ing, part of the hike is at the top. Here
two glaciers meet, eyjafjallajökull and
Mýrdalsjökull, and you find two new cra-
ters, Magni and Móði; still so warm that
you can barbecue your hot dogs, before
heading downhill to Þórsmörk.
The last part is the most scenic, with
fantastic views down to Básar in Þórsmörk,
and north, over the icelandic highlands.
The highest point of the trail is just
over one thousand meters. The weather
might be perfect on both sides of the
trail, but very different, dangerous even,
at the top.
Before taking the hike, check the weath-
er forecast, so you can enjoy icelandic
nature at its best. *
