Iceland review - 2014, Side 39
the colorful Kerlingarfjöll mountain range rises high above the Kjölur pla- teau, southwest of the glacier Hofsjökull in the west-central highlands. it’s been a long time since Kerlingarfjöll last erupted, 79,000 years to be precise, but the vol- canic origin of this mountain range is evident throughout the numerous hot springs, rivulets, rivers, glaciers and waterfalls along its marked and unmarked paths, which range from a quick 3-km stroll to a three-day, 47-km adventure around the rhyolite mountains. Kerlingarfjöll is rather easy to visit at a dis- tance of only 190 km (118 miles) from Reykjavík in a four-wheel-drive vehicle on F35, Kjölur road, which starts by the waterfall gullfoss. *
