Before entering the region, why not take a detour around Snæfellsnes peninsula in the west? if you prefer ice and snow, head east from the capital instead and take a walk on Sólheimajökull glacial tongue and then con- tinue all the way to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. in Vatnajökull glacier, one can explore ice caves and, along the south coast, see endless lava fields and sleeping volcanos. if you’re tired of driving, then just stay in Reykjavík and explore iceland’s capital on foot. it may be smaller than tokyo, but our capital has colorful surprises for photographers’ cam- eras.
