70 ICELAND REVIEW Next Stop Nuuk With regular flights to over 60 destinations in Greenland, Air Greenland is not only the country’s primary airline, it’s also a valuable partner for travelers looking to craft an unforgettable getaway in Nuuk, Greenland’s vibrant capital city. Of- fering frequent flights to and from Nuuk, Air Greenland also boasts an informative website and user-friendly online booking system. Better yet, the airline is also partnered with Greenland Travel, an agency that helps travelers sort through the many accommodations, tours, and experiences available in and around the largest city in Greenland. JUST HOURS AWAY FROM GREENLAND’S BEAT- ING HEART Air Greenland provides year-round service from Co- penhagen to Nuuk, with flights departing seven times a week during the summer. Guests taking this route are served by the company’s flagship, an Airbus A330 named Norsaq. In Kalaallisut, the official language of Greenland, Norsaq means ‘throwing board,’ or the part of a traditional hand-held harpoon that helps it to fly with more power and speed. And true to its name, the Norsaq Airbus delivers its passengers in good time. Flights from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq—Greenland’s main travel hub—are just four-and-half hours long. Here, passengers make a quick change to a smaller plane, the Dash-8, and then it’s only 45 minutes to Nuuk, on Greenland’s west coast. From March to October, Air Greenland also offers flights to Nuuk twice a week from Keflavík International Airport in Iceland. A conve- nient transfer point for passengers with connections to North Amer- ica, the United Kingdom, or mainland Europe, Keflavík is also quite close to Greenland: these flights only take three hours. AMAZING TOUR OF GREENLAND, EVEN BEFORE YOU ARRIVE One of the most exciting benefits of flying to Nuuk with Air Green- land is the amazing bird’s-eye view that passengers have as they fly over. Flights from both Copenhagen and Keflavík travel across the island from the east coast to the west. Many visitors report that they fell in love with Greenland after catching just a glimpse of it on a previous trans-Atlantic flight. These visitors will be delighted to learn that Air Greenland flights pass over the island at a lower altitude, affording passengers fantastic views of Greenland’s pristine snowy landscape, followed by the awe-inspiring Nuup Kangerlua fjord on which Nuuk is located, and the Sermitsiaq mountain that towers over the city. To the capital and beyond with Air Greenland. VESTNORDEN PHOTO BY THOMAS ELTORP. SPECIAL PROMOTION
