78 ICELAND REVIEW GREENLAND – ULTIMATE WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE In 2012, Lax-á opened a camp on the coast of Southwest Greenland, comprising of 12 two-person lodges with all the necessary modern conveniences. The camp serves as a base for Lax-á’s trips, organized in cooperation with the Greenland Caribou Company, which holds the exclusive hunting and fish- ing rights to 50,000 hectares (124,000 acres) in the area. The adventure begins with a flight from Reykjavík to Narsar- suaq, where local guides welcome the visitors, followed by a scenic boat ride to the camp. The following days are spent fish- ing for Arctic char in lakes and rivers near the camp, hunting for big game and sea angling for cod, bullhead and flounder. A visit to local villages, hiking or sightseeing tours can also be arranged. ICELAND – HUNTING, FISHING AND SIGHTSEEING Fishing enthusiasts visiting Iceland can choose between numer- ous Arctic salmon, char and trout rivers. Trips can be arranged either for the day or longer. Lax-á holds the rights to the largest goose-hunting territories in the country—500 hectares (1,240 acres) in the south and west.
