was a challenge; things happen so quickly. You have to catch the
content of things.”
In 2011, she worked on a project titled the Official Illustrator
of the City of Reykjavík, which evolved into a larger one, the
Official Illustrator of Iceland, sponsored by the state. She trav-
eled around the country last summer, focusing mostly on water,
including swimming pools and natural springs.
Rán is currently working on a book of documentary illustra-
tions from those trips—one that will likely be published next
summer. Her dream is to create other such documentaries, a
travelogue of her nomadic life, focusing on one country at a
time. Knowing the value of the visitor’s eye, Rán is living proof
of one of the best known Icelandic proverbs, Glöggt er gests
augað, or ‘Perceptive is the visitor’s eye.’ Lucky for us, we all
benefit from her unique vision. *
