HUGE ECONOMIC IMPACT
According to Meet in Reykjavík statistics,
80,000 MICE-guests, together with their
entourages, visited Iceland in 2014. This is
a 14 percent increase from the preceding
year. From 2011 there has been a stag-
gering 54 percent increase. “Their contri-
bution last year to the Icelandic economy
is estimated at USD 234 million (ISK 30
billion) revealing a huge economic impor-
tance,” says Brynja. Reykjavík has served
as the preferred conference destination
for the International Council of Archives,
World Geothermal Congress, Future of
Healthcare, Nordic Geotechnical Meeting
and the Nordic Congress in Human Ge-
netics. Other Iceland-specific conferences
held in Reykjavík include annual events
like Iceland Airwaves, Eve Online Fanfest
and the Arctic Circle Assembly.
The Meet in Reykjavík Ambassador
Club, which consists of Icelanders and for-
eigners, attracts a range of experts and
academics who aim to bring events to
Reykjavík. “By linking the contact net-
works of the Meet in Reykjavík Ambas-
sadors and marketing efforts of the Con-
vention Bureau, a significant increase is
anticipated in the number of international
conferences, meetings, incentive tours
