WINTER WONDERLAND
Winter visitors can choose from a wide array of tours. The
mix-and-match Grand Summit Tour is a particular favor-
ite. A snowcat takes guests 1,380 meters (4,500 feet) up to
Snæfellsjökull’s Mid-Cornice. From there, the adventure is up
to you: either sit back and enjoy the fantastic views with a cup
of cocoa, or strap on a pair of crampons and hike up to the
glacier’s true summit (1,446 meters). And you decide how to
make the return journey: either hop back in the snowcat or
jump on a pair of skis and glide back to base—a tour extra
that you can add free of charge.
For a no less breathtaking experience, try the Snowshoe
Hike. This one-hour trek weaves through lowlands and lava
fields and ends at a dome tent hidden in the snowy land-
scape. Here you’ll have a chance to warm up with traditional
Icelandic treats, such as hangikjöt smoked lamb, served on
flat bread.

OFF THE MAP
You won’t find many crowds up on the glacier, or outside the
main road in Snæfellsnes National Park, but wherever you find
