”E” Troop Boxers Win Two Out of
Three Contests
After a week’s delay the Boxing
Tournement arranged by the Hal-
lams took place in the Town Hall
on Wednesday 12. Jan.
Actually it was a battalion aíf-
fair but several special bouts were
billed in which the battery was
represented by Bdr. Roberts, Gnr.
Scargill and Gnr. Rogers R.
Scargill’s opponent was Cpl.
Hall (4 Lincs). They proved a
couple of well matched light-
weights. Both boys boxed clean
and well and there was little be-
tween them when the bell signal-
led the end of the fight.
Our man won by a very narrow
margin. A grand contest.
Our middleweight, Bdr. Roberts,
took the ring against Pte Wilby
(4 Lincs). The Lincs man gained
a technical K.O. in the second
round. The desision was unpopu-
lar. The referee apparently mis-
judged Robert’s condition for our
man was very fit. Hard lines,
Bombadier.
Gnr. Rogers won his desision by
an extremely small margin. His
opponent (Pte. Jones, 4 Lincs) put
up a very fine show and took Ro-
gers all the way, but the gunner
never lost his head. Well done,

On Guard tonight I have to go
All rigged up full F.S.M.O.
With shining rifle in my hand
On parade I proudly stand.

But when the moon is up on high
And shooting stars dance through
the sky
The blinding snow begins to fall
And I don’t proudly stand at all.
An hour has passed and I’m a
wreck
The blinking snow gets down my
neck
My feet are blocks of solid ice
My rifle now looks far from nice.
Ninety minutes have slowly
passed
I’m blinking sure that I shan’t last
To see old England’s shores again
I’ve „Orderly Officer“ on the brain.

A quarter of an hour I’ve to go
I’m up to my neck in blasted snow
The Northern Lights look down
and see
A shivering wreck that once was
me!
And then at last I hear a voice
It sounds to me a Heavenly noise
