THE ICELANDIC CANADIAN
Winter 1955
Eighteen Icelandic poets took part-
in a national competition, composing
poems commemorating the nine hun-
dred year anniversary of the founding
of the bishopric of Skalholt, which
will be celebrated in Iceland in 1956.
Rev. SigurSur Einarsson won the first
prize of 15,000 kronur; second and
third prizes were awarded to borsteinn
Halldorsson and borgeir Sveinbjarnar-
son.

At the invitation of the United
States Department of Commerce six
businessmen from Reykjavik, Iceland,
toured America’s major cities in Oc-
tober to study food distribution meth-
ods in the United States. They met
with leading manufacturers, proces-
sors, wholesalers and retailers of food
products. Those making the trip were
GuSjon GuSjonsson, Thorvaldur GuS-
mundsson, Magnus Johannsson, Gun-
nar Theodorsson, Leifur Thorhalls-
son and Gunnar Thorsteinsson.
