GRADUATE STUDIES
IN GERMANIC AND ICELANDIC
LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
PROGRAMME: The University of Manitoba offers a full range of
graduate courses in German and Icelandic language and literature
leading to the M.A. degree. For students with a B.A. (honours)
degree one year of study is required, consisting of two full courses
and a thesis. For general B.A. graduates a pre-M.A. programme is
offered, with a minimum of four full courses.
The presence at the University of Manitoba of an endowed Chair
in Icelandic together with the Icelandic library makes for unique
opportunity to combine studies in this area with related pro-
grammes.

Haraldur Bessason — Old and Modern Icelandic
Peter M. Daly — Baroque and 18th Century
Victor G. Doerksen — 19th Century and Literary Criticism
Robert J. Glendinning — Medieval Language and Literature
K. W. Maurer — Age of Goethe and Modern Literature
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: The following awards are open to full-
time graduate students (information on additional and special
awards also available).
1. University Fellowship in the amount of $3,000. for the calendar
year OR $2,000. for the academic session.
2. Graduate Teaching Assistantships up to $2,000. for the academic
session.
3. Research Assistantships in Arts of $1,200. for M.A. and $600. for
pre-M.A. students.
4. Summer Stipends of $1,000. for four summer months research.
