On Feb.29, 1929, he wrote,”1 had a
narrow sweak last month on the lake with
my old plug. He broke through a crack on
the lake and dropped in up to his neck. I
got him out only to break through again.
This time we both had a taste of it but we
managed to get out without any help. I had
to keep driving him on the lake until some
fishermen got planks across the crack so we
could get ashore. We were two miles out
where the crack opened. It was the coldest-
