The Alberta Clubs will celebrate together, the day that the Republic of Iceland gained Independence from Denmark. This year we also celebrate the crowning of Calgary Fjallkona, Barbara Sigurdson. Drive or take the bus to Markerville Park and the Fensala Hall. This is a rain or shine event. If it rains, go to Fensala Hall. Please email if you wish to take the bus. SUNDAY 16 JUNE Bloomington, MN: Icelanders in the Twin Cities will gather for their Icelandic National Day festivities at Moir Park, 10320 Morgan Avenue South. Shelter 1, closest to the north entrance at West 104th St. and Morgan Ave. Registration for the 30th annual Kvennahlaup begins and 10:30 am and the Kvennahlaup will follow at 11 am. Potluck lunch at 12:30 pm. Please bring a dish to share; hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Los Angeles, CA: The Icelandic American Association of Southern California will host Þjóðhátiðardagur at Cheviot Hills Recreational Center, 2551 Motor Ave.1 - 5 pm. Potluck, grill available. Toronto, ON: Annual Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto's Icelandic National Day Picnic. Grab your blankets and picnic baskets. Join us for a celebration of Þjóðhátíðardagurinn – Icelandic National Day. The picnic this year will take place in Dufferin Grove Park and will be for all ages. Families are very welcome. This is an informal event. Dufferin Grove Park is located on Dufferin Park Ave. south of Bloor, about two blocks south of Dufferin subway station and across from the Dufferin Mall.
