Obituaries
HAROLD EDWARD
SIGURDSON
Harold Edward Sigurdson,
87 years, a resident of Kenora
since 1895, Tuesday, No-
vember 20, 1979, Lake of the
Woods District Hospital, Ken-
ora, Ontario.
He will be sadjy missed by
his loving wife, Elizabeth;
one daughter, Marie and son-
in-law, John L. Hughes, of
Winnipeg, Manitoba; one son,
Gerald Sigurdson, of Kenora,
Ontario; five grandchildren,
Curtis, John, Charisse, Scar-
lette and Michelle, ali of Win-
nipeg, Manitoba; one great-
grandson, David Sigurdson
Rempel, of Winnipeg, Mani-
toba; brother-in-law, Bert
Bastien, and sister-in-Iaw,
Iris Bastien and many nieces
and nephews also survive.
He was employed with the
Ontario Minnesota Pulp &
Paper Co. in Kenora (Rat
Portage), for 52 years, and
also was a foster parent with
the Children’s Aid Society for
21 years, being a man who
loved children, and was con-
cemed with their welfare. He
served overseas with the 16th
Canadian Scottish Regiment
during the First World War;
was a member of the St.
Alban’s Cathedral and also
the Quarter Century Club.

THORA ELLISTON
(NEE SVEINSSON)
On December 13, 1979, at
Central Park Lodge, Mrs.
Thora Elliston, aged 81 years,
late of Central Park Lodge
and formerly of 340 Semple
Avenue, West Kildonan.
Bom in Iceland, Mrs. EIlis-
ton came to Canada as a child
with her parents. The family
farmed in the Oakview dis-
trict for many years. For the
past 60 years she had resided
in Winnipeg.
Surviving her is her daugh-
ter, Mrs. Robert (June) Jack-
son of Winnipeg and grand-
children Kim and Robert, Jr.,
two brothers, Siggi of Winni-
peg and August of Spearhill,
Man., and a sister, Mrs. Dora
Clemenson of Silver Bay,
Man., also many nieces and
nephews. Mrs. Elliston was
predeceased by a brother
Sveinn.

JOHN STEINTHORSON
Suddenly, on Saturday, De-
cember 15, 1979 at the Health
Sciences Centre, John
Steinthorson aged 93 years of
Lynn Lake, Manitoba.
John was bom July 27, 1886
in Iceland, coming to Canada
in 1912. In 1918 he married
Inga Johnson and together
they farmed in the Vogar dis-
trict retiring in 1964. They
lived for several years in
Lundar before moving to the
Pioneer Manor Senior Citi-
zens Home in Ashem. In Jan-
uary of 1978 John moved to
Lynn Lake to live with his son
Norman.
He leaves to moum his
passing five sons and two
daughters, Helen Baldwinson
of Calgary, Helga Campion of
Whitehorse, Thor, Ragnar,
and Lloyd of Stonewall. Lom
of Vogar and Norman of Lynn
Lake; 27 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his
wife Inga; by three sons, Wil-
mar, Gudni (Guy) and Jo-
hannes (Joe).
Active pallbearers will be
his grandsons.

Passed away suddenly at
the Selkirk General Hospital
on Sunday, December 16,1979,
Mabel Heidman widow of the
late Harry Heidman of Glen-
boro, Man.

ASMUNDUR S. GOODMAN
On December 17,1979 at the
Betel Home, Selkirk, Mr. As-
mundur S. Goodman, aged 93
years, formerly of Lundar,
Manitoba, dearly beloved
husband of Dora Goodman.
Mr. Goodman came to Can-
ada with his parents from
Iceland in 1893, settling in the
Lundar district. In his early
years, he farmed and also
fished and trapped in season.
He later was employed at the
East Meadow Goose Sanctu-
ary at Clarkleigh, Manitoba,
for 19 years. He and his wife
had been residents of Betel
since 1973.
Left surviving besides his
wife are his son, Amold, of
Ottawa; daughter, Mrs.
Amdis Steele, of Winnipeg;
granddaughter Beatrice
Douglas and great-grand-
daughter Roberta Douglas in
Vancouver; foster brother,
Mundi Nordal, of Lundar and
many other relatives.
Flowers are gratefully de-

morial Fund.
THOMAS EYJOLFUR
OLESON
Passed away at the Winni-
peg Health Sciences Centre on
Wednesday, December 19,
1979, Thomas E. Oleson be-
loved husband of Emily of
Glenboro, Man., at the age of
64 years.

KERNESTED
After a brief illness on
Thursday, January 3, 1980 at
the St. Boniface Hospital,
Herbert Leslie Kemested,
aged 49 years, beloved hus-
band of Rhoda of Teulon,
Man.
Besides his wife, Rhoda, he
leaves to moum his loss his
daughters, Deborah of Winni-
peg and Carla at home; five
brothers, Leonard, Prince
George, B.C., Kem, Calgary,
Alta., Paul, Ashem, Man.,
Gordon, Stony Mountain,
Man., Waldon, Langley, B.C.;
his aunt Kae Kernested,
Ashem, Man.; mother-in-law,
Mrs. Rhoda Storlie; brothers-
in-law, James and Oliver
Storlie all of Lampman, Sask.
as well as aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, cousins and
numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his
son, Douglas November 5,
1977.
Herb was born on No-
vember 20, 1930 at The Nar-
rows, Man. He graduated
from the Faculty of Agricul-
ture University of Manitoba
in May 1956 and was senior
stick of his faculty. He joined
the Department of Agricul-
ture on May 1, 1956 and
served as Agricultural Repre-
sentative at Teulon until April
5,1971 when he was appointed
livestock specialist for the In-
terlake. Herb actively partici-
pated in community affairs,
charter member and served
as treasurer of the Teulon
Golf and Country Club since
its inception in 1961, treasurer
of the Teulon United Church
and Teulon Unlted Church of-
ficial board for the past 21
years and was an active
member of the Teulon United
Church and served on the
committee of stewards,
member of the executive of
the Teulon Chamber of Com-
merce, member of the Village
Council, Curling Club
member and avid sports fan.
