Á föstudaginn kemur, 21. febrúar, hefir kvenfélag Sam- bandssafnaðar sölu á heimatil- búnum inat i fundarsal kirkj- unnar á horni Banning og Sar- gent. Slátur, kæfa, rúllupylsa, kaffibrauð og annað góðgæti verður á boðstólum. Er þetta tækifæri fyrir fólk að fá sér byrgðir af góðum, íslenkum mat til að hafa við hendina um þjóð- ræknisþingið, þegar mikið verð- ur af gestum. Salan byrjar kl. 2 eftir hádegið og heldur áfram fram eftir kvöldinu. -f -f -f Þeir, sem sækja þjóðræknis- þingið ættu að nota ferðiná sér í hag á alla vegu. Athugið leg- steinaverzlun A. S. Bardals. Madame Regent, Members of the Jon Sigurdson Chapter, I.O.D.E., Daughters of the Empire: I have the honor to present to you the 25th annual report of the Jón Sigurdson Ghapter for the year ending Febrúary Ist, 1941. The Chapter has held eleven meetings and one ex- ecutive meeting. The member- ship stands at 28, with 10 life members. The average attend- ance has been 15 members. Eight new members ánd a member of some years back have been welcomed to the Chapter. Eteven visitors have been present at our meetings. Receipts for the year in the war service fund have amounted to $700.82; paid out $601.50, leav- ing a balance of $99.32. Receipts for the year in the general fund are $543.55; disbursements $464.00; balance on hand $79.55. This inoney has been raised in various ways such as: Dance and Bridge in the Marlborough Hotel; recital given by Mrs. R. C. Vernon; draw of cloth donated by Mrs. F. Johnson; donations from the Icelandic celebration committee, the Junior Icelandic League, the Goodtemplars, and from several individuals; $200.00 was raised for the Bomber Fund bý public contribution; Tea at the home of Mrs. B. B. Jónsson Where Mrs. Johanna Benson gave a demonstration of spinning Angora wool; Sale of memorial books; proceeds of supper given by Mrs. Linikar of Grand Marias, Man.; Annual tea and home cooking held at the T. Eaton assembly hall; Brluge at the home of Mrs. Salverson; Concert jn the First Lutheran Cburch with Mr. Francis Stevens as guest speaker; Draw of wool blanket donated by Mrs. Johanna Benson of New Westminster, B.C.; and rug donated by Mrs. Johanna Sveinson, proceeds of this draw to estahlish a fund for returned ex-service men. TheT. Eaton Co. and the Hud- son’s Bay Co. donated the prizes for our bridge. Money has been paid out to the following: To an-ex-service man; towards buying wool blankets for London Hostel; con- vention expenses; delegate fee; pooled railway fare; endowment fund; coronation musical shco- larship returned soldier' Christ- mas cheer; work in India; of- ficers tax; Lord Mayor of Lon- don fund; British war guest fund; to the Fresh Air Camp in honor of two members who have passed away; to the K.N. Memorial; Jon Sigurdson musi- cal scholarship; to the Bomber Fund; hospital cheer and for buying wool; cigarettes and com- forts for our soldier boys. This has been a busy year and we could not have accomplished as much as we have were it not for the generous support we have had from friends of the Chapter, organizations, from the Icelandic and English papers. ,We are indeed very grateful. EDUCA TIONAL Secretary—Mrs. G. F. Jonasson. The Jon Sigurdson musical scholarship was continued this year through the generosity of the Junior Icelandic League and was won by Miss Haldora Siig- urdson for the second time. A Memorial book was presented to Mrs. Laura Goodman Salverson, to Mrs. A. N. Sommerville, to Mrs. S. Jakobson, and to Mr. Th. Th. Thorsteinson. A large quantity of old paper was sent to the Veterans Salvage Co.; 20 story books and 8 bundles of magazines Were taken to the I.O.D.E. rooms to he distributed, 12 calendars have been given to different organizations and 13 sold to members. A member worked an afternoon at the Doll display. WELFARE CONVENER Miss V. Jonasson. Welfare work has been carried on in the same efficient way. Clothing collected from mem- bers and friends has been cleaned and mended. Twelve parcels to the vaiue of $121.64 have been sent to country points. $12.06 was spent for Christmas cheer and $17.00 for welfare work. EMPIRE STUfíY CONVENER Mrs. B. S. Benson. The following splendid papers have l>een given at our meetings: Mrs. B. S. Benson spoke on the life of Lord Tweesmuir in Can- ada; Mrs. A. G. Dean gave an ínformal report on Empire study work of the Chapters; Mrs. O. Stephensen read an article on Iceland; Mrs. L. A. Sigurdson read a paper on Aldershot writ- ten by Mrs. Farhall; Mrs. A. Wathne read Nazi plans for Ice- land taken from the Toronto Star. IIOSPITA L VISITING CONVENER Mrs. H. G. Nicholson. Hospital visiting has been faithl'ully carried on, each month treats of some kind are taken to the patients. $2.00 a month is alloted for this. $5.00 was given from our Chapter towards re- turned soldiers Christmas cheer; baskets of fruit taken to two soldiers who were ill; a pair of pyjamas were given to a returned soldier. Special cheer at Easter- time is provided. UNORGA NlZEfí KNITTING CONVENER Mrs. P. J. Sivertson. Eight sweaters and 10 pairs of mitts have been knit by mem- bers and taken to I.O.D.E. rooms by the convener. MISCELLANEOUS Members helped with Tea for the blind. A Tea was held at the home of Mrs. B. J. Brandson by the chapter in honor of the executives of the Municipal and Provincial Chap- ters. Regent assisted in getting people to help with the registra- tion. Members donated towards and assisted at the Bomber tea. A Tea was held in honor of Mrs. Johaijna Sveinson on her 90th birthday. Mrs. Sveinson had done a great deal of knitting for the chpater. Tickets were sold by members for the municipal draw. Members took charge of the I.O.D.E. rooms for two weeks during the "year. WAR WORK Convcner, Mrs. E. A. Isfeld Co-conveners, Mrs. F. Wriglit. Mrs. .1. B. Skaptason and Mrs. J. S. Gillies. War work conveners’ report showed that 140 pairs of socks, 37 swealers, 45 scarfs, 10 pairs of mitts, 6 pairs of wristlets have been given to soldiers. 10 fitted Ditty. bags, 3 seamen’s sweaters, 2 quilts, 10 scarfs, 4 caps, 1 pair mitts, 20 pairs of socks have been given to the Navy league. 3 scarfs, 8 pairs of mitts, 12 pairs of socks were given to the Finnish relief. 90 lots of ciga- rettes have been sent to soldiers. $200.00 to Bomber fund. $5.00 to Lord Mayors fund; $2.00 to British war guest fund. $3.00 to Blanket fund for English Hostel. 20 wool blankets donated by members and friends to the Red Cross. Members worked at Power Bldg., doing I.O.D.E. sewing 12 days approximately 240 hours, average attendance 5 members. $10.00 given to the Chapter by the Federated Ladies Aid for Navy league. CONCLUSION In conclusion I would like to ttQoodAnyttm* thank the members for their co- operation. In the coming year we will all have to work to the best of our ability, these are streniuous times, our thought are towards one goal, victory.
