Kona mín Sigríður (Sarah)
Espólin er dóttir Jakobs Há-

hans Rannveigar Skúladótt-

hennar Jakob Hákonarson

með foreldrum sínum frá
Stóra Búrfelli 1874, og sett-
ust þau að i Kinmount, Ont-
ario, Kanada. Þaðan fór hún
og foreldrar hennar 1875 til
Nýja Islands. Fimm árum
seinna, 1880, fór fjölskyldan
til Bandaríkjanna og settist
að í Garðarbyggð, Pembina
County, Dakota Territory,
nú North Dakota. — Síðan
lifðum við hjónin í North
Dakota, lengst í Pembina,
eða til 1926. Fluttum þaðan
þá til Seattle, Washington
og lifum þar enn.
Að svo mikiu leyti sem ég
hef ekki unnið að skóla-
kennslu og við opinber störf,
hef ég stundað lögmennsku
(practiced law). Tók próf í
lögum 1902 og fékk leyfi til
að flytja mál fyrir hæsta-
rétti (Supreme Court) of
North Dakota 17. september
1902, en fyrir District Court
of the United States 28. nóv-

Með þessum linum hef ég

The Move to Gimli

those in favour of the move
to Gimli to rise; at the same
time he asked those who
were against the move to do
the same. Accordingly
everybody rose and
everyone present was
amused by Mr. Viljalm-
sson’s efforts.
J. J. Bildfell opposed the
move to Gimli but pointed
out that he had nothing
against the place nor the
people living there. He
emphasized that the
“Islendingadagurinn” was
the biggest Icélandic event
in Winnipeg and any move
away from there would
cause a great deal of
damage to the festival.
Asmundur Johannsson
spoke next and accused the
committee of deceitfulness
in this matter. It was his
opinion that the Icelanders
in Winnipeg had lost faith in
its members. He was in no
doubt that the festival would
suffer a considerable
financial loss if ever moved
to Gimli but "made little
effort in explaining how.”
The Committee Fights Back
Rev. J. Solmundsson
stated, that to begin with, he
had doubted if a move to
Gimli was desirable. It was
his opinion now, however,
that in spite of the distance
between Winnipeg and
Gimli, more people would
attend a Gimli festival than
one in Winnipeg. He said
that people should think
ahead, Gimli would in the
future become the most
Icelandic part of Manitoba
and therefore the ideal
place for the “Islen-
dingadagurinn.”
G. P. Magnusson agreed
with Mr. Solmundsson and
stated that it was the duty of
the committee to call this
meeting. It was never the
intention to start a debate
among the Icelanders in
Winnipeg; it was merely to
give the public an op-
portunity to make a
