A Family Reunion
The children and grandchildren of
Sigurdur and Maria Einarson of
Minerva (just southwest of Gimli) have
been gathering together every fíve
years. This was a reunion year. The
tradition started in 1976. The family
comes from all over Canada and the
U.S. This years’ reunion was held at
Lakeside Camp. There were 132 for
supper on Saturday night.
A very special event took place on
Sunday August 12 at the homestead. A
caim was dedicated to the memory of
Afí and Amma Einarson and their chil-
dren. This caim was built by grand-
sons, Barry, Bob and Leslie Einarson.
The unveiling ceremony consisted of a
member from each of the 15 children
applying a bit of mortar to complete the

caim. A wonderful picnic lunch was
then served by Sheila Panteltok and
her family. Panteluks’ farm is the
homestead property.
The homestead, Thorsmork, was
claimed in 1896 but the family did not
move to this site until 1902. Indications
are that Afi was only able to clear an
acre or so each year, as well as building
a log cabin 14' x 20'. They latei* (1923)
purchased a cottage from Loni Beach
and moved that to add to their home.
They raised 15 children to maturity.
There were 49 grandchildren and 111
great grand children and now a strong
new generation of great, great grand-
children.
