Icelanders first came to Manitoba in
1875 and, for 121 years, they have
contributed not only their penchant
for hard work, but also for good
times. This is proven by their proud
tradition of Islendingadagurinn —
Manitoba's famous Icelandic Festival.
Now celebrating its 107th anniversary,
Islendingadagurinn still impresses
visitors from all over the world.
Traditional foods and entertainment
provided by the Icelandic members of
our "Friendly Manitoba" team, are a
tribute to their outstanding culture
and heritage.
On behalf of the government and the
people of Manitoba, it gives us great
pleasure to extend a warm welcome
to each of you enjoying
Islendingadagurinn this year. We
know you will have a great time. Best
wishes for another successful festival
are extended to our friends in Gimli
and to the Icelandic community.
