At the Manitoba Film Awards,
in the category Best Drama
Short, Matt Holm won for his film
The Lost Bundefford Expedition. A
satire on and homage to polar explo-
ration movies, this 15-minute short
is a trek across Lake Winnipeg.
Matt’s film has screened in festivals
in Toronto, Vancouver, Austin, TX,
and NewYork.

of Akureyri is looking for infor-
mation about Jón Sveinsson’s family,
most of whom emigrated to Canada.
They run Nonnahús, his childhood
home. Known as Nonni, Jón was a
Catholic priest and well-known author

The Annual General Meeting
of the Lögberg-Heimskringla
Inc. was held in Gimli at the
Betel Waterfront Centre (Johnson Hall)
on March 1, 2001 at 7:00 pm. Agendas,
financial reports, and the slate of nomi-
nations for directors and appointed
directors were circulated.
Grant Stefanson chaired the meet-
ing. The present board of directors and
staff were introduced. The agenda was
approved and officers and staff mem-
bers spoke. Harley Jónasson, past pres-
ident of the board, reviewed the three
years he served on the board.
Highlights of his presentation follow:
“I want to first speak briefly about
the many positive changes that I have
seen in my past three years at L-H\
• bringing the off-premises layout
editing functions in-house
• rewriting the by-laws
• developing a business plan which
laid out long-term goals for the paper
• initiating new design and layout
• subscription drives and various
promotions resulting in increased sub-
scriptions
• new location with Consulate
enhanced the image of the paper
• designing and implementing a
website
• renewing accounting system and
reconciling the books
• improving general office adminis-
tration
• beginning a network of regional
correspondents and coordinators.
• initiating a student writer pro-
gram
• establishing a regional office at
the Betel Waterfront Centre
He went on to 'talk about the bene-
fits of the new office in Gimli, and con-
tinued: “If we want to put this paper on
the fast track to success, then the board
and staff need the encouragement, sup-
port, cooperation and active involve-
ment and help from the whole Icelandic
community.
„“It needs more than just a full ros-
ter of board members, it needs an army
of volunteers, not just in Winnipeg and
New Iceland, but throughout the coun-
try. It needs you to step forward in this,
the Intemational Year of the Volunteer,
and offer your assstance, whether
