Calgary/Markerville, AB: Leif Eiriksson lce-
landic Club of Calgary, will be attending the
annual lcelandic Picnic in Markerville, AB.This
event combines the Calgary, Markerville and
Edmonton Clubs in celebrating Independence
Day in lceland and the crowning of our Provin-
cial Fjalkona. This year's reigning Queen will
be Margaret Grisdale from the Calgary Club.

Day Picnic at Elfros, SK. 3 p.m. at the Elfros
Pop-ln.
Sunday 20 June
Palo Alto, CA: The lcelandic Association of
Northern California celebrates lceland’s
National Day at Rinconada Park. A group pic-
nic location with shade next to the children’s
playground has been reserved for the event.
The easiest parking is the lot for the Junior
Museum and Zoo on 1451 Middlefield Road or
along Hopkins Avenue. Bring something for the
grill to barbeque and some beverages if you
like. The board will provide free soft drinks. For

Gimli, MB (Willow Island): Snorri West
2004 BBQ. Come join us for some family fun
and to meet and greet the Snorri West 2004
participants, Kristín, Sigrún, Linda, Guðrún,
Anna, Fanný, Geir and Magnús. Learn more
about this exchange program with lceland
and the young people who will be staying for
six weeks in Arborg, Gimli, Riverton and
Winnipeg. The BBQ will be held at Willow
Island (White Rock) from 1 to 4 p.m. (open

ICC of BC: lcelandic Family Picnic will be held
at Diefenbaker Park in Tsawwassen.This is the
annual get-togetherof the lcelandic communi-
ties of Victoria, Point Roberts, Blaine, Belling-
ham, Seattle, the Lower Mainland. Games for
the children and adults. Hamburgers on the
barbeque and bring own picnic basket.

ICC of BC: The annual Scandinavian Midsum-
mer Festival will be held at the Scandinavian
Centre in Burnaby, 6540 Thomas St. Theme:
Costumes of Sca.ndinavia. Opening cere-

dinavian Hjemkomst Festival. Celebrate the

Grand Forks, ND: Free Film Festival at the
Empire Arts Center. Spotlight film: 4 p.m. Arc-
tic Dreamer— an exploration of the fascinating
life of the controversial Arctic
anthropologist/explorer, Vilhjálmur Stefánsson,
this documentary indudes the fresh perspec-
tive of Stefansson's six forgotten Inuit grand-
children. One of the most famous men of the
early 20th century, Stefansson is best known
for discovering the “Blond Eskimo" of the cen-
tral arctic. He was one of the first explorers to
adopt the Inuit lifestyle, living off the land. The
film incorporates extraordinary, rare archival
footage.

ICC of BC: Did you know 22 lcelanders joined
the Gold Rush to the Yukon? Come see this
interesting exhibition at lceland House. The
exhibit was commissioned by the Edmonton
Club, Norðurljós, and material was researched
and prepared by Nelson Gerrard. Iceland

Markerville, AB: A Quilt of Many Cultures will
be on display at Spruce View Hall, starting at

Gimli, MB: The New lceiand Heritage Muse-
um will feature the first ever Canadian showing
of a travelling exhibit from lceland. “Extending
the Energy Chain: lceland's Pioneering Path in
Renewable Resources” will present the lead-
ing-edge technology used in lceland to har-
ness alternative energý sources. The exhibit
also highlights the recent agreement between
Manitoba and lceland to work cooperatively on
the development of hydrogen energy.

a fundraising event for the Lögberg-Heim-
skringla, takes place at Links on the Lake.

Scramble format. Cost for entry is $150 per
person and indudes lunch, tee box gift, din-
ner at the Johnson Hall at 6 p.m., 18 holes
