The White Falcon - 24.12.1964, Qupperneq 1
On behalf of the people of a grateful nation I extend
warmest season’s greetings and best wishes to the guardians
of our freedom—the men and women of the Army, Navy,
Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
I have observed with great pride and deep appreciation
your steadfast devotion and readiness to defend our nation’s
heritage.
All Americans well realize that you supply the courage
and strength necessary to protect our country and that
with the help of our allies, you provide a shield against
tyranny.
As we approach this Holy Season, all is not serene. In
Southeast Asia American servicemen are giving their
lives so that others may be free to shape their destiny.
In this time of both joy and sorrow, it is my hope that
every man and woman in uniform will realize the essential
nature of the task he or she is performing. To those who

President Lyndon B. Johnson
It is a pleasure for me to pass
on to you the following message
from Lt. Gen Thatcher, Com-
mander, Air Defense Command.
“As we approach that special
season when men of good will
everywhere speak of ‘Peace on
Earth,’ it is entirely appropriate
that we in the Air Defense Com-
mand reflect on our contribution
to the maintenance of that peace.
“As members of the Aerospace
Defense Team, a deterrent force
to those who would destroy our
liberty and our way of life, we
keep constant vigilance 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year. There
can be no slackening at any time
—even during the Christmas Sea-
son. In fact, many of you will
spend the Holiday at duty stations
far from your homes and families
(Continued on page 4.)
The ancient message of “peace
on earth, good will toward men”
is ever-timely for those dedicated
to a mission of peace and security
for the world. At a time when
our responsibilities have never
been greater and the challenge
never more demanding, it is sin-
cerely hoped that each of you
realizes a sense of satisfaction
and purpose in knowing that our
daily efforts are fundamental in
preserving the peace of the world.
May the joy of Christmas be
yours during this festive season,
and may the New Year continue
to be filled with happiness and
peace.

RAdm Paul D. Buie
As we close the year and re-
flect upon our past accomplish-
ments, we of the Iceland Defense
Force can derive great satisfac-
tion in knowing that we have sup-
ported our country and our NATO
allies unselfishly in this land of
“frost and fire."
This has demanded much of
you and your families and asked
of you a faithfulness and devotion
little experienced in any other
field of human endeavor. Your
performance has been a source of
great pride and admiration to
me personally. I know it is deeply
appreciated by our country and
our NATO allies.
It is with a deep sense af grati-
tude and appreciation that I ex-
tend to you and your families my
