Teaching Staff
“No more pencils, no more
books... . ” was the theme song
of the students of the Alfred T.
Mahan High School last Friday.
It was the last day of school.
To acknowledge students’ per-
formance both in the academics
and in activities, an Award As-
sembly was held on Friday
morning.
The highest scholastic award,
the Principal’s Award, was pre-
sented by Mr. Robert K. Peck,
superintendent, to Julia Mahler,
Claudia Bien and Martina Wey-
mouth.
Honor Pins
The following students received
gold honor roll pins for First
Honors: Debbie Gibson, Jeff
Soper, Danielle Weymonth and
Margaret Wilson.
Silver pins for the Second Hon-
ors went to Carl Eason, Bobby
Litke, Mike Long, Barbara Napp-
er, Cynthia Smith (seventh
grade); Peggy Aitchison, Bill
Barnes, Hamie Shanks (eighth
grade); Peggy Barbacci, Jo Ann
Haveland (tenth grade); Mary
Downey, Joan Hoag (eleventh
grade).
Third Honors
Those in Third Honors also re-

June is the time of the year
when the grass is green, the flow-
ers are blooming, the skies are
sunny and when school terminates.
Yes, it’s the carefree time for
school children and three months
of awakening and decision for
the young adults who have fin-
ished twelve years of schooling
The seniors of the Alfred T.
Mahan High School, U.S. Naval
Station, Keflavik, Iceland held
commencement exercises, June 2,
at the Station Chapel.
Six Graduates
The six seniors of the Class of
1965 were Wilma June Cathey,
secretary, Cindy Ann Hoffman,
Barry Lee Lennon, treasurer and
salutatorian David Morgan, vice
president, Donald Morgan vale-
dictorian and Thomas Scott Star-
bird, president.
Cdr Richard C. James, com-
manding officer of U. S. Naval
Station, Keflavik, Iceland held
diplomas to the graduates while
Mr. Robert K. Peck, superinten-
dent of the school, read out the
names.
$100 Scholarship
Three $100-dollar scholarship
checks were donated by three
clubs on base and presented to
the senior of their choice.
Mrs. Margaret Long, stand-
ing in for the “O” Wives Club
president Mrs. Diane Mullin, pre-
sented Donald Morgan with a
check and congratulations.
Barry Lee Lennon received a
scholarship check from Mrs. Lynn
Repp, president of the NCO Club
and Thomas Scott Starbird was
awarded the third $100-dollar
check from William Lowe, ETC,
president of the Northern Lights
Masonic Club.
Guest Speaker
The commencement guest speak-
er was Mr. Valdemar N. L. John-
son, United States deputy-in-
charge of Mission, U.S. Em-
Embassy, Reykjavik, Iceland. Mr.
Johnson spoke about the roles ser-
vicemen’s children overseas play
in the world today.
At the closing of the commence-
ment exercise, the valedictorian of
the Class of 1965, Donald Morgan,
gave the farewell address on be-
half of the Senior Class.
Invocation — Benediction
Chaplain Normand A. Ricard,
LCdr, CHC, USN, gave the in-
vocation while Chaplain Robert G.
Brown, Lt, CHC, USN, admini-
stered the benediction.
The High School Chorus, under
the direction of Robert W, Clay-
ton, MU3, of the Naval Station
Band, sang “You’ll Never Walk
Alone” and “The Lord Bless And
Keep You.“
