Six Enjoyment-Packed Acts
Another United Service Organizations’ (USO) Show arrived at the Naval Station
last night. Seven top-rated performers are combined into one show called the “State-
side Capers.”
The professional experiences of these showmen spanned the four corners of the globe,
from the Golden Gate to Carnegie Hall and from the West Indies to Istanbul.
The cast of stars included: Jack Powell, comedy-drummer; Jack Flosso, master of
ceremonies and comedy-magician;
Millie Hamm, dancer; the Blair
Sisters, singing duo; Vikkie Drue,
dancer; and Ron Richardello, ac-
cordionist.

Veteran showman Jack Powell
takes his drumsticks and beats
rhythm out of anything in the
house, including the audience, if
necessary.
Jack has been known in every
vaudeville house on two continents,
on the stages of Broadway’s big-
gest and has headlined in theaters
all over the world.
He and his “educated” drum-
sticks have performed in movies
with Bing Crosby and Burns and
Allen. He personally appeared be-
fore the King and Queen of Eng-
land, and by special invitation, at
the Inauguration of former Presi-
dent Dwight D. Eisenhower.
People from every rung of the
show biz ladder know Jack Powell.
And when he says, “They all
know me,” he means the men
whose countless hands he wants
to shake, the countless servicemen,
he has traveled millions of miles
for over two decades to entertain,
to meet and to clown with.

Emcee And Magician
Jack Flosso is a double of his
craft; he loves his business and
his audience. He also doubles as
emcee and performs comedy magic.
His inbred talent for magic stems
from his father and grandfather
who both were professional magi-
cians.
The show’s magician also has a
quick wit and even quicker tongue
as an amusing emcee and jokester.
This Brooklynite has appeared with
the late Ernie Kovacs, with Steve
Allen and has performed the Brit-
ish West Indies resort-circuit dur-
ing the winter season, as well as
the innumerable GI’s on several
USO tours around various parts
of the world.
Dancing, Dazzling Blonde
Packing beauty, brains and tal-
ent is the well put together com-
bination of blonde hair, brown
eyes Millie Hamm. She is a dancer
who has been performing since
childhood and made her first ap-
pearance at Pacific Ocean Park
in Santa Monica.
A California girl (and they
make them especially well out
there), she has appeared around
the area in San Francisco and
with the Los Angeles Civic Light
Opera Company in productions
with Alfred Drake and Chita
Rivera.
Her training in dance has been
with some of the finest teachers
in the business. Not neglecting her
intellectual capacities either, Millie
attended San Fernando Valley
State College.
Power-Packed Duo
The singing duo, the Blair Sis-
ters, Gloria and Judy, are two
talented young ladies from Cin-
cinnati, Ohio. And, as one article
put it, “The Blair Sisters, they
sing and dance, AND HOW!”
They began their show biz train-
ing at an early age to concentrate
on practice and study for the big
time. The practice and training
paid off and the graceful sisters
with the eye-catching talent and
beautiful voices were an instant
success throughout the Mid-West.
Aside from their numerous
American bookings including show
dates with the Dorsey Bros. Or-
chestra, they recently returned
from a successful tour of Europe.
While on tour, they performed at
top nightclubs in Paris, Rome,
London and Istanbul.
Captivating Dancer
Vikkie Drue is a 5-foot, four-
inches, black-haired, brown-eyed
powerhouse of dancing talent. Her
resume includes a pile of news-
paper clippings that sing her
praise and the pictures accom-
panying them show the pretty miss
