Active duty aspirants to other than flying commission were last selected for OTS in July 1969. Since then, nonrated applicants have attended OTS only via the Airman Education and Commission- ing Program and Bootstrap Commis- sioning Program. Besides a degree, a candidate must have 18 months' service be- fore applying. They must be at least 21 and not older than 30 at the time of commissioning. Airman education and commis- sioning program and bootstrap candidates and college graduates entering OTS from civilian life will not be applied to this spe- cial quota for first term airmen. An OTS selection board, con- vening November 1 will select the best qualified candidates for in- put to the following career fields: weapons control, missile launch control, missile mainten- ance, munitions, communications- electronics engineering and in- dustrial engineering. Also, the open mess management field will be open to holders of hotel and restaurant management degrees. Interested airmen are urged take the Air Force officer qual (See OTS, Page 12) May 21, 1971 "Here is a golden opportunity for those airmen who have bachel- or's degrees and would like a career as an Air Force officer." So said Col. Budd H. Butcher, commander AFI, when the Air Force announced the reopening of its Officer Training School for non- rated airmen.
