Dental’s Van Doran earns 'century patch’
The 960th AWACSS flexed their
muscles Monday night and regained
first place in the American League
of intramural bowling. They used a
heavy barrage of 500 series to shut-
out NavFac while Food Service was
splitting their match with the Com-
missary. AWACSS is up by a game and
a half.
John Wright's three 200 plus
games (212, 211 and 204) and 627
series led AWACSS, Joe Morowski fol-
lowed with a 209 and 583, Bob Ful-
wider was next with a 201 and 581,
Ed Jones had a 205 and 574 and Mike
Luce was in at 530. Bob Godin's 202
and 569 paced NavFac with Steve
Brown following with a 201 and 566
and Phil Blauvelt adding a 505.
Danny Nigdao's 500 was high for Food
Service and Tony Cuerpo led the Com-
missary with a 514.
Rounding out the rest of the
league, the 57th FIS blanked the
Comptroller behind Jim Barrineau's
and Chris Vanderford's 504 sets and
Bob Mennel added a 208 game. W.C.
York was high for Comptroller with a
542. Gary Carmichael rolled a 203
and 536 for VP-23 even though his
team dropped three to AIMD. AFI and
Navy Broadcasting split their match
as did IDF and NavCommSta. Jim
Kearney's 533 and Bruce Michaelson's
518 were high for AFI while Ron Gu-
lick paced NBS with a 535.
The North Atlantic League did not
bowl due to snow conditions.
Walt Milnichuk's 547 led Medical
to a 4-0 win over AFI Tuesday night
and broke the deadlock for first
place in the National League of in-
tramural bowling. Medical now holds
a four game lead over AFI since both
teams went into the evening tied for
the lead.
The 57th FIS Good Guys shutout
ComFairKef and moved into a tie for
third place. Rick Browning had a
200 game and a 542 set to pace the
Good Guys. Browning also earned
himself an all-spare patch. Burt
Hanor added a 201 game and Bill Her-
shey a 200 for the 57th. Rounding
out the rest of the league, Perry
Boren's 531 series led the IDF
Chiefs past CommSta Admin 4-0; Van
Sullivan had a 523 in the CFK Chiefs
win over Recreation and Joe McGlynn
had a 200 and 511 to lead the Supply
Chiefs to a 3-1 win over Supply #2.
Terry Van Doran of Dental probably
had the biggest evening though, as
his team downed the Navy Exchange
for three. Van Doran, a 136 average
bowler, rolled a whopping 245 game
(that earns him a century patch for
being over 100 pins over his aver-
age) and had a 553 series.
Turning to the International
League, league-leading Specomm play-
ers believed they were jinxed last
week when it was mentioned they al-
most had a lock on the league. They
dropped three to Grindavik, but
still managed to only lose one game
off their lead. They are now up by
eight games.
Det. 14's Jolly Green is in sec-
ond place and came away with a split
with Public Works, thanks to Jim
Kyne's 530 set. In other action,
Mike Stasiak had a 522 and Stan Con-
don a 500 even as the Hot Rocks from
NSGA blanked Navy Weather. Pete
Corrigan led Weather with a 526.
The 960th AWACSS won 4-0 over Nav-
Fac; Admin was a 3-1 winner over
NSGA's Mat Rats behind Tim Croce's
514 and AFI split with the Marines.
Darwin Ray had a 201 and 558 to lead
AFI.

ton fifth with a 723.

Ken Peer had a 701 for seventh. Nick
Nicholson followed with a 692, Pat
Ponder rolled a.687 and Ed Jones and
