The White Falcon - 24.10.1980, Side 8
Page 8 The White Falcon October 24, 1980 Who cares about the White With only 135 surveys, it’s Falcon?? hard to tell Who cares about the White Falcon? Only 135 Reader Surveys were com- pleted and returned. Although this may reveal trends about what readers want (nothing?), it is not enough to draw definite conclusions. Another survey will be conducted at a future date, in about six months. Probably by mail or telephone. A problem with receiving so few replies is that they may not be rep- resentative of the larger reader population. It is possible that people who feel very favorably and people who feel very negatively about the paper were the only ones to fill out the forms—they feel they have a reason to while the majority of readers don't. More articles on/about Iceland, stateside news, world news, and more recreation articles about activities both on and off base were the items receiving the most attention in the readers notes section of the survey. WF evaluations In the evaluation section com- ments ranged from it's terrible to it's a great and useful paper. The large majority were positive. Many people also made suggestions for im- provement which ranged from layout possibilities to items they would like to see included or items which they feel there are too much of. The White Falcon will begin to include copy from the wire services in its pages in response to the de- mand for more than local news. In order to do this without sacrificing space for local news coverage the paper will expand to 12 pages about once a month. Contribute! The White Falcon staff invites your contributions to the paper. Articles may be sent via guard mail or they may be dropped off at the office in Bldg. 734C. Articles submitted should include the name and phone number of the person sub- mitting them. It's true that not everything which is submitted can be printed. However, a large percentage. of material which is submitted does make it into print. Twenty-six of the people answering the survey in- dicated they submitted material and only one indicated that none of the material was printed. A few people mentioned that changes to schedules after they have been printed are frustrating. We recognize that such changes happen after press time but simply have no control over this. We thank those of you who did take the time to share with us your your ideas and suggestions. Comments & suggestions A list of the suggestions and comments (paraphrased) follows: *More world news, more stateside news, *more consumer news, *more sports, *less sports, *less bowling, *comic strips, *more pages. *Clip out articles of telephone numbers and activity schedules, *larger photographs, *larger print. *Articles too long, *more about local regulations and policies, *recipes, *more human interest, *too much on brass activities. *Conus radio schedule, *more on recreation activities both on and off base. *Glad to see the paper out Friday mornings, *NATO maneuvers, *articles for singles, *Reykjavik movies, *local problems both on and off base, *too many award-type stories. *Changes to T.V. schedule are frustrating, *don't let captions run into copy. *Run enlisted menu Saturday Friday instead of of Friday to Thursday, *Where and what to buy off base, *local personal opinions, *deadlines a bit early.
