17th Annual Drag Competition ISK 2,800 21:00
Harpa, Austurbakki 2 (C4)
A drag competition is like a pageant, but more than a
thousand times better. For those of you who’ve never
dreamed of performing as a King or Queen on stage, you
really don’t know what you’re missing. Maybe you love
RuPaul’s Drag Race (we sure do here at the Grapevine),
and want to see what a hundred layers of makeup looks
like on a real person. If that’s the case, you should
definitely come see this year’s show, themed “On the
Cover of the Dragging Stones.” RSL

Reykjavík Pride Parade 14:00
Starts at Vatnsmýrarvegur ISK Free!
Fabulousness abounds in this scintillating, titillating
spectacle of pride. It starts near BSÍ and ends in front
of the concert stage at Arnarhóll downtown. So that
gives you the maximum amount of time and space to
be watching the most awe-inspiring spectacle of the
summer. RSL
Radical Summer School ISK Free! 12:00-00:00
Hringbraut 121 (B1)
This summer school ain’t for the kids. Well, maybe for
really radical progressive kids who have already read
the classics from Goldman, Marx and Nietzsche and
are advanced enough to handle what Radical Summer
School has to offer. There is a diverse programme in
place, with lectures on unionising workplaces, radical
environmentalism and other off-the-beaten-path topics.
Some are in English, most are in Icelandic, but all of
them are guaranteed to offer an alternative view to
mainstream academia. The speakers are knowledgable,
the school is free, and will be filled with likeminded
people. RSL

August 6 NEVER AGAIN After WWII, the people
of Japan started lighting candles and
floating them down rivers to remember the
victims of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Since
1985, a collection of Icelandic peace organ-
isations have organised a similar tradition
of floating lit candles from the south-west
bank of Reykjavík Pond every year in early
August, when the sun finally starts setting.
There will be a short assembly at 23:30,
after which the candles will be lit and sent
off.
